Whether you’re brand new or a seasoned dice goblin, here’s everything you need to know before diving into a Roll for Tangents adventure. These guidelines help keep our games fun, safe, and wonderfully chaotic.

Safety Tools

I run games where everyone should feel comfortable, respected, and excited to play. To support that, I use a few simple safety tools that help us navigate tricky themes without breaking immersion.

  • Lines & Veils
    • Lines: Hard boundaries we don’t cross.
    • Veils: Fade‑to‑black moments for sensitive content.
  • X‑Card / Pause Card
    • Anyone can pause or redirect a scene at any time.
  • Open Door Policy
    • If you need to step away, you can — no explanation required.
  • Session Zero
    • We establish tone, boundaries, and expectations before long‑form campaigns.

What I Expect From Players

My games work best when everyone brings curiosity, kindness, and a willingness to collaborate. You don’t need to be an expert, I just ask for you to be engaged and respectful.

Be Present

Show up ready to play, minimise distractions, and stay engaged with the story.

Be Respectful

Treat other players with kindness. No harassment, no bigotry, no drama.

Be Collaborative

Your ideas matter… but so do everyone else’s. Share the spotlight.

Technical stuff

FoundryVTT

You’ll receive a link before each session.

Discord (Voice)

A working mic is essential.

Stable Internet

Enough to keep your connection steady.

Headphones

Helps reduce echo and background noise.

Troubleshooting

If we do have technical difficulties, let’s all be patient and try and work it out. If it’s taking a while, we may move to “theatre of the mind” for you or all players – meaning that you hear my dulcet tones and descriptions to support the play, rather than seeing the images on the thinking machine.
